 Mike Hoag of the Indio, CA office has replaced Cathy Cooke as the Alternate member on the RPA Board of Directors. Michael graduated with a degree in Environmental Engineering from Montana Tech in 2001. After graduating, he started working for Granite Construction Company as a project engineer in Granite's Southern California Branch in Palm Springs. He worked on several road reconstruction and maintenance projects including three major paving projects with Asphalt-Rubber. In January of 2003, Michael was promoted to the position of Asphalt-Rubber Engineer for Granite. He is responsible for bidding all Asphalt-Rubber work, scheduling the projects, managing quality control, crews, and equipment for each of Granite's four mobile Asphalt-Rubber plants.

Affiliate Member Clemson University, Asphalt Rubber Technology Service (ARTS) under the leadership of Dr. Serji Amirkhanian has a new educational Video available. The video entitled "Where the Rubber Meets the Road" details the mission of the ARTS program and how it utilizes crumb rubber in hot mix asphalt to make more durable roads and reduce waste in South Carolina. Copies make be purchased by sending a check or money order for $9.95 to ARTS, 2002 Hugo Drive, Clemson, S.C. 29634. Please include your name, address and phone number and your choice of VHS or CD.
 To date, ARTS, funded by a $6 million dollar grant from DHEC, has completed 11 paving and 2 playground projects incounties, cities and colleges in South Carolina.
  Research underway at the Clemson ARTS includes: Life Cycle Cost Analysis; PG Grading of Rubber Modified Asphalt Binder; Study of Effect of Particle Size; Study of Effect of Rubber Content and Study of Effect of Rubber Processing Type (Ambient or Cryogenic). For information

Dr. Barry Takallou, RPA Executive Committee Member and President of
Crumb Rubber Manufacturing (CRM)
purchased the former Landstar/Polytech tire recycling facility in Queen Creek, Arizona from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court on September 19, 2003. CRM was awarded the contract for the Maricopa County, Arizona tires last spring. Maricopa County generates the majority of scrap tires in the state. The capacity of the newly acquired Arizona plant, which is incorporated as Crumb Rubber Manufacturing of America, is 50,000,000 lbs per year. CRM also operates a plant in Rancho Dominguez, California. The contacts for the two plants are:

 The Rubber Pavements Association is a nonprofit organization committed to increased awareness and advancement of Asphalt-Rubber technology through seminars, research and publications. The association only supports proven paving processes which meet the ASTM definition D8-88 and standard specification D-6114-97 or public processes which are routinely used by two or more states.
