Agencies visit A-R sites

Members of the East Arkansas Planning and Development District (EAPDD) and the Puerto Rico Authority of Solid Waste Management visited Arizona Asphalt-Rubber sites in October.

The EAPDD was represented by Richard Spelic, executive director; Stacy Murry, tire program coordinator; and Charlie Wood, solid waste program coordinator. The Puerto Rican group consisted of Lydia Perez Plaza, planning specialist; Manuel Barrios, scrap tire coordinator; Brenda Colon Blanco, contamination prevention coordinator; and Luz Dalisa Fraticelli, legal advisor.

The tour started at PolyTek Southwest, one of the largest fire recycling facilities in the country. It included a discussion of waste tire management programs with officials of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and Maricopa County.

Also on the schedule was a luncheon at Bank One Ballpark and a visit to an Asphalt-Rubber blending unit.

Annual meeting set for January 27

Below Monterey Bay lies a canyon as deep and steep as the one in Arizona. Of course, that's where the similarities end.
RPA will hold it's annual meeting at the Embassy Suites Monterey Bay Hotel in Seaside on January 27. The day-long meeting ends with an installation awards dinner aka RPA Prom Night.
The hotel is on California's Monterey Peninsula, two blocks from the beach and minutes from Carmel and 17-mile drive. Pebble Beach, Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium are also nearby.
For the golf enthusiasts there are 17 championship golf courses in the area.

Coming soon

The Quality Control Manual for Asphalt-Rubber Contractors is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The manual, authored by Drs. Gary Hicks and Jon Epps, is based on interviews by Asphalt-Rubber contractors throughout the U.S.

The Life Cycle Cost Analysis for Asphalt-Rubber Paving Material, a comprehensive research project by Oregon State University and the University of Nevada Reno, will soon be available to all state agencies and technology transfer centers on a CD ROM. A shortened version to be presented by Dr. Hicks in Australia is available in the RPA Library.
