| Description |
In July, 1990, the ministry of Transportation of
Ontario built trial sections on Highway 400, near Innisfil, to compare standard
and modified HL 1 mixes in terms of their effectiveness to resist rutting and
low temperature cracking. In addition to Premium Asphalt from Petro-Canada, the
additives used for the trial sections include Novophalt, Neoprene, Vestoplast,
and tire rubber, which had not been evaluated previously by the MTO. The
selected test site represents a typical highway section in a colder environment
experiencing heavy traffic induced rutting. The mix design for the trial
sections was modified to yield results in 2-5 years.
