| Description |
Saskatchewan Highway Materials Engineers have been
interested in low temperature behavior of asphalts a long time. The correlation
of asphalt temperature susceptibility has been recorded by Saskatchewan
authors. The interest in low temperature performance of asphalt and the
increasing use of seal coats lead naturally into the use of rubber in asphalt.
The staff attendance of a rubber- asphalt conference in 1971 in Phoenix caused
an in-house test section to be designed and constructed in 1975. This test
section was also constructed to see if rubber crumb could be utilized if the
province was to grind rubber tires because of the environmental problems tires
create in sanitary landfills.
