Description	Surface Dressings are executed using two main families of binder. For decades, road research laboratories have tried to develop a binder which would combine the advantages of both families. In 1979, we initiated a comprehensive research program that extended over 3 years, involving tests carried out on several hundred chemicals during 10,00 hours spent by engineers and specialists, before we executed the first trial on roads. The results were beyond our hopes, because on one hand, this new process provides a better workability than the less viscous cut backs during the first 2 hours, which is favorable to a proper embedding of the chippings.
