| Description | Various research studies have shown that CRM materials, with higher ground tire rubber contents, have significantly modified physical properties when compared to conventional asphalt cement. These modifications include increased high temperature modulus, increased viscosity, increased elasticity, reduced temperature susceptibility, and reduced ageing. Procedures for selecting the CRM material proportions, the resulting desired properties, mixture aggregate gradations, and binder contents for dense, open and gap graded mixtures along with suggested construction criteria and specifications vary from conventional methods. The interaction which occurs between asphalt cement and ground tire rubber has shown to be dependent on various different factors: ? Asphalt physical and chemical properties. ? Rubber physical and chemical properties. ? Time ? Temperature ? Mixing conditions (high shear or low shear) ? Use of various additional additives Each of these factors should be considered when developing a CRM binder formulation. |
