Description This paper describes the design and operational features of several asphaltic concrete gold heap leach pads which have been constructed in the United States over the past 12 years. For these projects, crushed ore is placed on the pad, leached, removed and deposited in a waste area. Procedures used in pavement structure and asphaltic concrete design are summarized and operational procedures described. Seepage considerations and the need, if any, for leakage detection systems and secondary liners are discussed.
