Description The Rubber Pavements Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging greater usage of high quality, cost-effective asphalt pavements containing recycled tire rubber. The group consists of crumb rubber producers, paving contractors who blend and apply Asphalt/Rubber (AR), plus associate members such as suppliers, supporters, and technical advisors. The Association is the successor of the Asphalt Rubber Producers Group (ARGP), which was a part of the National Association of Recycling Industries in the late 70s and early 80s. In 1985, the ARPG Incorporated in the state of Arizona as an independent association. In its defined purpose of endorsing those technologies with a proven record of success, the group promotes the so-called wet process only at this time. Over 95% of the current use of scrap tire rubber in asphalt, worldwide, is a version of the wet or pre-reacted process. In the early 1960s the wet process of Asphalt Rubber was conceived and successfully developed by Charles H. McDonald, who was then the Materials Engineer for the city of phoenix AZ. Arizona became the state with the longest history of use. It has the most pavements with sufficient age to demonstrate AR truly outlasts conventional asphalt concrete (AC) pavements.
