| Description |
Since its first introduction to South Africa
bitumen-rubber has found increasing acceptance in various rehabilitation
projects. This material has been used successfully in the prevention of
reflection cracking on cracked asphalt and concrete pavements. Although
bitumen-rubber has to date been used mainly in stress-absorbing membrane single
seals, the use of rubber in asphalt mixes has gained growing acceptance. The
study was conducted in conjunction with a rehabilitation project on the N2
Freeway between Cape Town and Somerset West, which was completed in November
1986. This project included a 40-mm bitumen-rubber asphalt overlay.
